The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three alleged accomplices of a native doctor, High Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, also known as “Ezeani” or “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” who is wanted for kidnapping and ritual murder.
A 13-year-old girl, reportedly kidnapped for ritual purposes, was also rescued during the operation.
According to a statement released on May 28 by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrests and rescue took place in the early hours of May 27, 2025, around 3:15 a.m., at Umuojor village in the Ishiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area.
The operation involved police operatives from the Umumba Division, local Neighbourhood Watch personnel, and vigilant community members.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38).
The primary suspect, Ezeani, fled the scene and remains at large.
Tragically, during the rescue mission, police discovered two decomposing bodies—one male and one female—buried in a sealed concrete pit within an uncompleted building used as a shrine by the fleeing native doctor.
Investigations suggest the victims were murdered and buried for ritual purposes, and the rescued child narrowly escaped the same fate.
In response to the horrific discovery, the Enugu State Government has demolished buildings owned by the suspect, which were allegedly used for criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, who visited the scene, praised the collaborative effort of the police, local security, and residents.
He also ordered the Command’s Tactical, Investigation, and Intelligence Units to intensify the search for Ezeani and any other accomplices still in hiding, vowing that justice will be served.
