Two separate road crashes that occurred on Monday, May 27, 2025, along different sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have left one person dead and seven others injured.

Quoting Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Punch reported that the first incident occurred at Ibafo. It involved a lone vehicle that caught fire due to a fuel leak.

“It was a lone crash. Eight people were involved, two sustained injuries, and one person died. The vehicle had a fuel leakage, and a spark ignited a fire which was intensified by the leaking fuel,” Okpe said.

FRSC operatives from Ibafo were reportedly at the scene and worked to contain the blaze using fire extinguishers before the arrival of the fire service.

The second accident took place at Car Park C, involving a Toyota Hiace Bus (KTN 741 YX), which crashed into a Ford car that was waiting for a truck to complete a turn.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed that the Hiace bus was traveling at high speed when it lost control and rammed into the stationary Ford vehicle, resulting in a multi-vehicle collision.

The crash involved three vehicles: a Howo Truck (RBC 865 XU), a Ford Car (RBC 432 XH), and a Toyota Hiace Bus.

“According to an eyewitness, the Ford car was waiting for the Sino truck to complete a turn when the Hiace bus, which was speeding, failed to brake in time and struck the Ford from behind,” Akinbiyi explained.

A total of 23 people were involved in the crash, with five sustaining injuries. Some of the victims were taken to a nearby hospital before emergency responders arrived, while others continued their journey in alternative transport.

TRACE, Amotekun, FRSC, and police officers were present to manage the traffic situation. The affected vehicles were towed to the Redeemed Police Station for further investigation.
