Following a resit of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), an additional 200,000 candidates scored above the 200 mark, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The resit was prompted by technical and human errors that marred the original exam and affected over 379,000 candidates, primarily from Lagos and the South-East.

JAMB’s investigation confirmed issues caused by faulty server updates, which disrupted the upload of candidate responses during the first few days of the initial exam.

In the updated results released on Sunday, JAMB revealed that 1,365,479 of the 1.9 million candidates (70.7%) still scored below 200. However, the number of candidates scoring above 200 rose to 565,988, up from 439,961 in 2024 and 355,689 in 2023. This marks a 5.3% increase from last year.

The 2025 UTME results indicate continued academic improvement, with 117,373 candidates scoring 250 and above — a rise from 77,070 in 2024 and 56,736 in 2023.

JAMB noted this improvement reflects growing familiarity with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) system introduced in 2013, and said it would continue refining its processes.

All 1,931,467 candidates who sat the 2025 UTME have now received their results, a full release rate that exceeds the 1.84 million results issued in 2024.

Despite the gains, JAMB flagged ongoing irregularities by candidates and some CBT centres, and emphasized that underage candidates whose results were previously withheld but later released are still ineligible for admission due to policy restrictions.

Further announcements are expected on how the updated scores will affect university admissions.
