Gunmen break Abuja Estate fence, abduct two residents – Police rescue one amid shootout

Police operatives in Abuja have rescued one of two residents abducted by suspected kidnappers from Grow Homes Estate in Kuchibuyi village, Byazhin area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The abduction occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 26, 2025.
According to a statement by FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, officers received a distress call around 1 a.m. from personnel stationed outside the estate reporting an armed attack and requesting urgent backup.
Upon rapid deployment to the location, officers discovered that the attackers had breached the estate through its rear perimeter fence and forcefully taken two residents.
A 40-minute gun battle ensued between the police and the assailants during which one of the abducted victims, identified as Chinyere Joe, was rescued. The kidnappers, however, managed to flee with the second victim.
The FCT Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and is working to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining captive.
SP Adeh urged residents of the area to remain vigilant, cooperate with security personnel, and promptly report any suspicious activity.
