A student who scored 153 in the controversial 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has now recorded a remarkable 361 after retaking the exam.
Earlier this month, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) released results that showed over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200.
However, inconsistencies in the results prompted an investigation, which revealed errors that affected numerous candidates.
JAMB subsequently scheduled a resit for the affected students. Among them was Nwadike Chukwubikem Chidiebere, whose performance improved significantly after the retake.
Education advocate, Alex Onyia, highlighted the turnaround in a post, saying: “From 153 a few weeks ago to now 361. Is God not awesome?”
The situation has sparked mixed reactions online.
@francis_ranco commented, “This is nice, but JAMB should sit this 2025 out, and allow tertiary institutions to control their admissions.”
@Kolintin12 expressed concern: “What about those of us who had incomplete questions during our session but weren’t rescheduled?”
@victoryonyeka shared, “I’ve been texting JAMB about my daughter’s result, but no response.”
@YouthspireNG added, “Years ago, I scored the same marks repeatedly. I suspected something was wrong. Thankfully, I’ve since earned two international master’s degrees on scholarship.”
@Tobi_Godsent praised the efforts of Alex Onyia but questioned the possibility of such errors recurring in future UTME exams.
