The man who alleged that N150 million savings he kept in his United Bank for Africa (UBA) account were wiped out has given details about his ordeal.
Recall that the man reached out to Nigerian activist Harrison Gwamnishu to help him recover his money from UBA.
In a new video posted by Gwamnishu, he allowed the complainant to give a full account of what transpired while also disclosing that UBA had contacted the affected customer and promised to look into the matter.
The complainant said he returned to Nigeria on May 15, 2025, after working abroad for 17 years and approached a UBA branch in Egbeda to check his account, only to find that the officials were exchanging suspicious looks.
He was later told something was wrong with his account and was directed to his original branch at Ijora 7Up.
He said he got to his original branch at 8 am and was there till 3 pm as he tried to get to the bottom of the whole issue.
He said he was told that he had died and his money had been paid to his family.
At some point, the customer said policemen were summoned to take him away, but he stood his ground, insisting on getting the account his money was sent into and also the pictures on the BVN of the account holder who received his money.
Gwamnishu revealed that a fraudulent death certificate and a court-issued probate order were allegedly used to authorise the withdrawal of the man’s funds.
According to the activist, the names presented by the bank as beneficiaries of the funds are completely unfamiliar to the victim.
Calling for accountability, Gwamnishu urged the public to tag both the Central Bank of Nigeria and UBA on social media, demanding transparency and justice.
He captioned the video:
“THE MAN THEY DECLARED DEAD IN THE BANK AND WIPED OUT OVER ONE HUNDRED MILLION NAIRA.
UBA bank reached out and they assured they are on his matter. It will interest you to know that before the money was awarded to unknown recipients, they obtained a Death certificate of a living being and went to probate at the high court to obtain a court order.
Currently, the name the bank officials mentioned to us were the recipient, the victim, doesn’t know them. Please tag @centralbankng and @ubagroup
The bank will be held liable. They know what happened.”
