23-year-old woman arraigned for allegedly stabbing boyfriend for cheating

Court

A 23-year-old woman, Abigail Victor, has been arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend during a heated altercation over suspected infidelity.

Abigail, a resident of Ungwan Sunday in Kaduna State, is facing two charges—conspiracy and causing bodily harm—filed by the Nigeria Police.

According to Prosecutor Inspector Chidi Leo, the incident occurred on May 17, 2025, in the Sabon Tasha area of Kaduna.

He told the court that the dispute began after Abigail accused her boyfriend, Dominic James, of cheating.

“In anger, she reportedly called two friends to join her at the complainant’s residence, where they allegedly assaulted and stabbed him in the shoulder with a knife,” Leo said.

Neighbours reportedly intervened and rushed the injured Dominic to the hospital for medical treatment.

The prosecutor noted that the alleged offences violate Sections 58 and 284 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

Section 58 prescribes up to one year in prison for conspiracy, while Section 284 provides a minimum five-year sentence for causing bodily harm.

Abigail, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted her bail in the sum of ₦200,000 with one surety in the same amount. The surety must be a blood relative and present evidence of three years’ tax clearance from the Kaduna State Government.

The case was adjourned to June 17, 2025, for further hearing.
