
Odunayo Alade, the father of the student, Kehinde Alade, who was k!lled by a stray bullet shot by a policeman in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, has admitted to driving against the traffic when the incident happened.
Odunayo, in a video that has gone viral, said in Yoruba that he wanted to take the short one-way to link where he was going when officials of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA) attempted to stop him.
A man with Odunayo, who is suspected to be a relative, continued the narration, adding that Odunayo attempted to evade the officials, not knowing there was an armed policeman with them.
He said there was a gunshot from nowhere, and his son was hit. He said he noticed his son was suddenly gasping for air.
The incident happened along the Airport Roundabout, Alakia-Adelubi/Airport Road in Oyo state on Tuesday, May 20.
Odunayo’s account corresponds with that of the spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Osifeso Adewale, who, in a statement released earlier, had said that the incident happened during an attempt to arrest Odunayo.
