‘My 600-lb Life’ Star, Pottain, dies at 40 after pleading for prayers over failing health

Latonya Pottain, who gained public attention after appearing on Season 11 of My 600-lb Life, has died at the age of 40.
Pottain appeared on the show in 2023, weighing 632 pounds and largely bedridden due to her condition.
Her health struggles prevented her from walking down the aisle to marry her fiancé, Daune.
Despite efforts, she found it difficult to change her eating habits and continued gaining weight during her check-ins with Dr. Now.
She was eventually diagnosed with a serious heart condition and removed from the program after failing to meet the required weight loss targets.
On Saturday, May 17, 2025, she passed away at Christus Highland Medical Centre in Shreveport, Louisiana. According to the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office, a preliminary autopsy revealed congestive heart failure as the cause of death.
Her brother shared that the family had visited her earlier that day and noticed she was struggling to breathe and appeared very uncomfortable. Later, a nurse informed them that Pottain had called an ambulance after going into cardiac arrest, which ultimately led to her death.
Pottain had previously shared her struggles with emotional eating, stating: “When I eat, it takes the stress away… I’m disappointed in myself for getting to this place.”
She also openly spoke about her battles with mental health and the toll it took on her life.
A year before her death, she posted a heartfelt plea on Facebook: “Y’all pray for me. My heart not working right and there is nothing more the doctors can do here in Louisiana. Please keep me lifted.”
Following news of her passing, her social media pages were filled with tributes from fans, many expressing heartbreak and saying they had hoped to see her reclaim her health.
