One killed, three injured as building under construction collapses in Lagos

Tragedy struck on Sunday afternoon, May 18, when a two-storey building under construction collapsed at 96 Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque in Lagos, resulting in one fatality and three serious injuries.

The incident was confirmed by the Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, who noted that search and rescue efforts were still ongoing at the site.

“So far, one person has been confirmed dead, while three others have been rescued alive. Search and rescue operations are ongoing,” the official statement read.

Emergency response teams from various agencies swiftly mobilised to the scene.

These included personnel from the Isolo Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police.

The cause of the collapse remains unknown, as investigations are currently underway to determine what led to the structural failure.
