JAMB queries why 15 candidates ignored Anambra centres to write rescheduled exam in Imo State
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed concern over the decision of 15 candidates to leave Anambra State for Okigwe, Imo State, to sit for their rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Saturday, May 17.
The development comes after JAMB announced a resit for affected candidates following a technical glitch that impacted exam results in Lagos and the five South-Eastern states.
According to reports, the 15 students travelled from Anambra to Okigwe for their exams and subsequently became unreachable along with their accompanying teachers, sparking widespread fears of a possible abduction.
However, on Sunday, May 18, the Imo State Police Command dispelled the rumours, clarifying that the students were not kidnapped.
The police explained that their vehicle developed mechanical issues in a remote area with limited mobile network coverage, which caused the communication breakdown.
JAMB has now questioned the students’ decision to travel out of Anambra state when there were numerous accredited centres available within the state.
In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the board described the move as “suspicious” and expressed concern over the motive behind the unusual centre selection.
The incident has generated debate among Nigerians online, with many echoing JAMB’s concerns over the necessity and rationale for choosing an exam centre in a different state.
Further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the centre selection and the students’ travel are expected.
