Cape Town mother stabs drug-addicted son after 12-hour police delay: “it was either him or me”

A mother from Khayelitsha, Cape Town, has reportedly stabbed her 19-year-old son during a violent confrontation, claiming she acted in self-defence after waiting over 12 hours for police intervention.
The woman alleges her son, who became addicted to crystal meth last year, was in a drug-induced rage and had attacked her and her other children when she returned from a night shift.
Fearing for their lives, she said the situation left her with no other choice but to defend herself.
“It was either him or me,” the distraught mother reportedly told local authorities.
Police have opened a preliminary case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) against the woman, though public reaction has been divided.
While some have called for a thorough investigation, many have expressed sympathy and support for the mother, blaming law enforcement’s delayed response for the escalation.
