A yet-to-be-identified woman reportedly attempted to take her own life by ingesting rat poison at Wurukum Market in Makurdi, Benue State, on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

The incident was shared by Facebook user Mary David Lubem, who stated that the woman was quickly rescued by a good Samaritan who rushed to get a bottle of palm oil and force-fed it to her to neutralise the poison.

A photo of a packet of Commando Rat Poison, which the lady reportedly consumed, was also posted by Mary Lubem.

Lubem wrote:

“Some moments ago at Wurukum Market here in Makurdi, Benue State, a woman consumed rat poison. A God-sent person saw her, ran to get a bottle of palm oil, and forced her to take it.

Please let’s be kind to those around us and offer help when we can. People are going through a lot these days. May God meet us all at our points of need.”

The woman’s identity and motive remain unclear, but the post has since sparked concern about rising mental health struggles in the country.
