A 28-year-old teacher, Suliat, has stirred public attention with a bizarre demand during a divorce hearing at the Iseyin Grade C Customary Court, Oyo State, insisting that her estranged husband must return her virginity and restore her health before she will agree to end the marriage.
Her husband, Lateef, initiated the divorce, accusing Suliat of repeatedly embarrassing him in public.
However, Suliat countered with serious allegations, claiming Lateef used spiritual manipulation to deceive her into the marriage.
According to Suliat, she initially approached Lateef seeking spiritual assistance to boost her struggling business.
He allegedly agreed to help but demanded she provide some of her pubic hair and engage in sexual relations with him.
She claims that after complying, her business fortunes improved, and she eventually ended up married to him.
Now, Suliat says her health has deteriorated since the marriage and blames Lateef for her condition.
She told the court she would not accept the divorce until her virginity and well-being were fully restored.
The unusual demand has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning whether her claims stem from emotional trauma or deeper spiritual beliefs.
Presiding judge, Chief Raheem Adelodun, adjourned the case until Suliat’s health improves.
He also directed both families to seek medical care for her and return to court with updates every 15 days.
