The Lagos State Police Command has addressed public concerns following the circulation of a viral video showing a large group of young men arriving in Lagos and gathering near a company premises in Ibeju-Lekki.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, authorities confirmed that the incident was reported on May 14, 2025, prompting the swift deployment of officers to investigate the situation.

According to Hundeyin, investigations revealed that the 89 young men had arrived from Katsina State and were recruited as labourers for the Dangote Refinery in Lekki.

A contractor affiliated with the refinery confirmed to the police that he was responsible for sourcing the labourers, a claim that was further validated by the refinery’s Chief Security Officer (CSO).

The police confirmed that all individuals were thoroughly searched, and no illegal items were found in their possession.

Each of them also presented valid identification, including National Identification Numbers (NINs), which were verified.

Hundeyin assured the public that the workers were cleared and would reside within the refinery premises as part of their employment arrangement.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, urged residents to refrain from spreading unverified information that could incite fear or tension. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to public safety and maintaining law and order throughout Lagos State.
