The Ghana Police Service has apprehended four individuals, including a Nigerian national, in connection with the fatal shooting of a mobile money (MoMo) vendor in Aflao, Volta Region.

The suspects—Michael Sewornu (34), Korku Agboada (43), Atsu Agbagla (36), and Utsuku Onyeso (22)—were arrested on May 10, 2025, during a coordinated operation involving the Regional Police Intelligence Department, SWAT Unit, Operation Motherland Taskforce, and a local community watch group known as ‘ACTION NOW’.

According to a police statement dated May 12, 2025, the incident occurred on April 28, 2025, around 6:15 p.m., when approximately five unidentified gunmen attacked and fatally shot Christopher Ahordo, a mobile money vendor, at Gbagblakope near the Diamond Cement factory in Aflao.

The assailants allegedly fled with a bag believed to contain cash.

The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.

This incident adds to a growing list of attacks on mobile money vendors in Ghana.

In response to the increasing violence, the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MoMAG) has called on the government to intensify efforts to protect mobile money agents.

MoMAG’s national president, Edward Ofori Agyemang, emphasised the need for increased security measures to safeguard agents and their operations.
