A 19-year-old girl, Opesusi Faith Timilehin, allegedly took her own life in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Monday after reportedly becoming distraught over her UTME score.
A native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Timilehin was living with her older sister in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, at the time of the incident.
Timileyin was believed to have ingested a poisonous substance known as ‘Push Out’ before rushing to her sister’s office, where she requested palm oil, apparently owing to the pain she was feeling in her stomach.
Alarmed, her sister organised to rush her to the hospital.
On their way to Kolak Hospital, she reportedly confessed to her sister that she had ingested poison. She did not make it to the hospital. A doctor later confirmed her de@d.
Family sources said Timilehin had taken the UTME in 2024 and was disappointed that her 2025 score of 190 was lower than the previous year’s.
She had hoped for a better result. Neighbours described her as a quiet and humble girl.
Many have expressed outr@ge at what they consider systemic delays in admission processing and communication.
Her grieving parents travelled from Abeokuta to recover her remains for burial.
