The Rivers State Government has sealed a health facility following the death of a patient, Mrs. Victoria Paris, during a caesarean section allegedly performed by unlicensed health personnel.
It would be recalled that the husband of the late Paris took to social media to call out the hospital for allegedly refusing to transfuse blood into his wife after a Cesarean operation.
The husband alleged that the doctor, a Jehovah’s Witness, said it was against her faith to transfuse blood.
The woman died subsequently.
The Anti-Quackery Committee, led by Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, discovered that the facility, originally registered as a maternity centre, had been illegally converted into a clinic performing surgeries without certified medical staff.
The hospital, housed in a three-bedroom apartment, lacked standard sterilisation units and infection prevention measures.
The facility’s registration was revoked, and all affiliated health workers have been summoned for investigation.
