A final year student of Niger Delta University (NDU), Abinna Precious Briggs, was tragically killed in Amassoma, Bayelsa State, on the night of Monday, May 13.
Briggs, who had just completed his final examinations and was awaiting his project defense, fell victim to a suspected rival cult attack.
According to reports, Briggs was shot by his assailants who then fled. He was still breathing when he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
However, he was denied treatment due to procedural restrictions related to gunshot wounds, leading to his death from excessive blood loss.
This incident adds to a series of violent clashes between rival cult groups in the area, which have resulted in at least ten deaths over the past two weeks.
Notably, two other NDU graduates awaiting their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) call-up were killed under similar circumstances just four days prior.
The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Muhammad, confirmed the killing and stated that investigations are underway to apprehend those responsible.
