To impregnate 10 girls in 5 months, he might have slept with 20,” doctor speaks on viral Anambra apprentice

Gynaecologists have offered their opinions on the spectacular feat of an 18-year-old apprentice in Anambra State who allegedly impregnated 10 girls in a period of five months.
The state’s commissioner of Women and Social Welfare exposed the case of the boy on social media and it went viral, as most people found it unbelievable.
According to the commissioner, the boy was attached to a man to learn a trade, but he ended up impregnating the man’s daughter and his salesgirl.
When the boss sent him back to his parents, the boy allegedly impregnated another seven girls in their neighbourhood.
When asked how he managed to convince the girls to sleep with him, he said he simply told them he loved them and was prepared to marry them the moment he made money.
Commenting on the situation, medical experts opined that it was possible but “unusual”.
Speaking to Punch Healthwise, Professor Chris Aimakhu, a respected Obstetrics and Gynaecology professor at the University of Ibadan, opined that it is not every woman that a man sleeps with that gets pregnant.
He opined that for the boy to have impregnated 10 girls, he must have slept with up to 20 girls, while calling for some investigation to ascertain that the girls did not have multiple partners, any of whom could have also impregnated them.
He said that while the teen’s alleged feat was biologically possible, the circumstances were deeply troubling.
“For 10 women to accept to sleep with an 18-year-old apprentice who has little or nothing to offer, something is wrong. This may go beyond mere youthful behaviour,” Aimakhu said.
He further opined that the teen’s feat might make him a target of baby factory operators in the region.
“We are aware of the existence of baby factories in parts of the East. If this boy is being used because of his age and potency, there is a need for a thorough investigation,” he added.
Another expert, Dr. Joseph Akinde, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, suggested that the teen could be suffering from hypersexuality – a rare mental health disorder characterised by an unusually high and uncontrollable sex drive.
He said the condition was rare, but real and needed medical attention.
He said, “It’s a mental disorder, but it’s not common. His libido is unduly high. He’s fully mature, and there’s nothing spiritual about it”.
He noted that the most alarming aspect of the case was the alleged pregnancy of the 10-year-old daughter of the apprentice’s boss.
He said there was an increasing incidence of early puberty (known as precocious puberty).
“We are beginning to see girls even as early as nine attain puberty. If a girl starts menstruating before 10, there is nothing that stops her from getting pregnant if exposed to unprotected sex,” said Dr Akinde.
He called for early sexual education both for children and their parents to help them understand the dangers and consequences of early sexual activity.
