The family of Iniubong Umoren, the late University of Uyo graduate murdered in April 2021, has dismissed circulating claims suggesting she was a victim of organ harvesting.

Reacting to a viral video where a woman identified as Dr. Sandra Duru (also known as Prof Mgbeke) alleged that Senator Natasha asked her to accuse Godswill Akpabio of being involved in harvesting Umoren’s organs, the family strongly refuted the claim, describing it as both “outrageous” and “deeply hurtful.”

Iniubong’s eldest sister, Ifiok Ephraim Umoren, told Punch that she personally witnessed the autopsy conducted at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital and confirmed that no organs were missing.

“This accusation is not only false but dishonours the memory of my sister and retraumatizes our family,” she said.

Umoren, a 26-year-old Philosophy graduate, was lured under the pretence of a job interview and brutally murdered by Uduak Abasi Frank Akpan, who was sentenced to death on August 4, 2022, by the Akwa Ibom State High Court.

Akwa Ibom’s Director of Public Prosecution, Friday Johnson Itim, also confirmed that the crime was a lone act committed by Akpan after the victim refused to engage in unprotected intercourse.

“There was no evidence in court linking any other person, including Senator Akpabio, to the murder,” he said.

He added that the autopsy report is publicly available and confirms that all of Iniubong’s internal organs were intact.
