Suspected kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N500,000 for the release of five-year-old Memunah Abdulrahman, who was abducted in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State on March 9, 2025.
Memunah was reportedly taken while returning from Islamic school with her sister.
A man, believed to be the suspect, allegedly lured the girls near a popular supermarket under the guise of buying them items.
He then disappeared with Memunah, leaving her sister behind.
Speaking with Punch, the girl’s father, Abdurrahman Alimi, said the abductors contacted the family about a month after the incident, calling from a private number to demand the ransom before cutting off communication.
“They asked us to pay N500,000 and then hung up. We haven’t heard from them since. I believe my daughter is still alive,” Alimi stated, adding that the family has informed the police.
He noted that while officers at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) visited the community shortly after the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Owohunwa Jimoh, directed them to take over the case, there has been no clear update since then.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the CP’s involvement, but the family remains uncertain about the progress of the investigation.
