A Katsina-based businessman, Alhaji Balan Auwal Mai Gwanjo, who was abducted over two months ago, has died while in the custody of his captors.
Mai Gwanjo was kidnapped along with his son, Saifullahi, during a violent attack by armed bandits on Malumfashi town in Malumfashi Local Government Area on February 26, 2025.
Family sources revealed that the abductors called on Sunday, May 11, to inform them of the businessman’s death, dealing a devastating blow to his loved ones.
The attackers had stormed the area, firing sporadically and clashing with security forces in a fierce exchange. Despite the intervention by the security operatives, the gunmen succeeded in whisking away the elderly man and his son.
It is still uncertain whether the son has regained his freedom or remains in captivity.
