
A 16-year-old British-Nigerian boy, Valentine Ikechukwu, has tragically drowned while swimming in a lake at Colwick Country Park in Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom.
Valentine was reported missing around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, prompting a major response from emergency services.
His body was later recovered by a police underwater search team shortly before 8:00 p.m.
Valentine, a former business student at Nottingham College, has been remembered by family and friends as a loving and well-liked young man. His grieving family released a heartfelt statement, saying:
“Valentine will remain in our hearts forever. He was a well-loved son and brother. We are absolutely devastated. Long live Valentine, forever 16.”
The college also expressed shock at the news, describing him as a popular student and offering support to his former classmates.
Police confirmed that the incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
Detective Inspector Gail Routledge of Nottinghamshire Police said:
“This was a heartbreaking tragedy. Our thoughts are with Valentine’s loved ones. We urge everyone to understand the serious risks of entering open water, whether intentional or accidental.”
