UK-based Nigerian gospel singer and broadcaster, Muyiwa Olarewaju, has revealed that he was treated as a suspect after reporting a robbery attempt on his way to work earlier this year.

In a video posted on his Twitter account, Olarewaju recounted the incident, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. in February.

He said a young white man attempted to break into his car and shattered one of the windows.

After escaping and arriving safely at work, he reported the attack to the police and informed them about nearby CCTV cameras that might have captured the act.

“I told the police about the cameras in the area and how the guy had smashed my window. I shared everything,” he said.

However, the situation took an unexpected twist when the police turned their investigation toward him.

“Once the police reviewed the footage, they began treating me as a suspect,” Olarewaju explained. “Yes, me—the victim.”

He said the police summoned him for interviews and launched an investigation into him. To protect himself, he hired legal representation from Hanson Woods Solicitors, whom he praised for their support.

Despite the attacker being visible on camera, the police reportedly never identified or arrested the suspect.

Instead, Olarewaju was investigated for affray, an offence generally associated with public disturbances.

“The guy on camera was never found, but I was under investigation for affray,” he said.

The case dragged on for three months before it was dropped due to insufficient evidence.

“Three months later, they told me there was nothing more to pursue. They couldn’t find the attacker, and they had no evidence against me,” Olarewaju added.

He concluded by urging people to always be legally prepared and cautious when dealing with law enforcement.

“Be careful out there. Have legal support ready—just in case. I know the police are doing their best, but sometimes mistakes happen,” he warned.
