A Nigerian care worker, Bilikesu Olagunju, has appeared in a UK court after CCTV footage captured her abusing an elderly man in his home.

The 42-year-old, who resides on Congress Road in Abbey Wood, admitted to a charge of ill-treatment or willful neglect of an individual under her care.

Footage from the pensioner’s home showed Olagunju grabbing and dragging the man, leading to her arrest and prosecution.

She appeared for sentencing at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday, May 7, but the hearing was postponed as she arrived without legal representation.

Judge Charlotte Welsh advised her to seek a solicitor, stating: “You don’t have a lawyer. That’s your choice, but I strongly recommend you get one. They can help you apply for legal aid so you won’t have to pay. I understand you’re anxious, but this is a very serious matter and you need proper legal support.”

Olagunju was granted bail and is expected to return to the same court for sentencing in June.
