Police in Delta State have arrested two brothers, Maxwell Mathew and Samuel Mathew, over the alleged abduction and armed robbery of a man, Patrick Omoregie, in Abraka, in Ethiope-East Local Government Area.

According to reports, the suspects, said to be part of a two-man gang notorious for terrorising the Abraka community, abducted their victim at gunpoint and forced him to transfer ₦70 million from his bank account.

They also allegedly stole his GLC 300 Benz, an iPhone 16 Plus, and ₦150,000 in cash.

Human rights advocate Comrade Israel Joe confirmed the development on Wednesday, May 6, 2025, stating that the suspects were apprehended at a hotel in Benin City, Edo State, where they were reportedly attempting to sell the stolen vehicle.

During interrogation, the brothers confessed to using a portion of the stolen money to pay their mother’s rent in Abraka.

Authorities have since recovered approximately ₦30 million of the stolen funds. The case has been handed over to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Delta State Police Command for continued investigation.

Joe urged the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, to ensure a thorough probe and swift prosecution of the suspects to serve as a warning to other would-be criminals.
