A woman, identified simply as Alhaja, has been battered by her husband for having the effrontery to take N800 from his pocket after she refused him intimacy the previous night.
In a viral video, the lady, who is a stroke survivor, can be seen weeping profusely as she narrates her ordeal at the hands of her husband to neighbours.
One of the neighbours recorded the scene and posted it on X (formerly Twitter).
There are visible facial injuries, including bruises and swelling, when the Alhaja pulls up her veil.
The lady said trouble started when her husband reached for her at night and she told him she was tired.
In the morning, she said she asked for the money for food, but he refused, saying he had no money.
She recounted that she later checked his bag and found ₦800.
Alhaja said that when her husband realised what she had done, he flew into a rage, twisted her functioning hand (the other hand and a leg were affected by the stroke she had), head-butted her eye and gave her a beating.
“He wanted to sleep with me, but I told him I was tired. I asked him for food money, and he said no. I opened his bag and saw ₦800. He bent my hand, started beating me, and hit me in the eyes with his head,” she recounted tearfully.
In the background, voices in the video can be heard expressing surprise that any man could beat a woman who could barely walk because of a stroke she was yet to recover from fully.
They urged her to leave the marriage for her safety.
