Seventy-four individuals, including homeless persons, were apprehended during a raid conducted by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce on Tuesday, May 6, across parts of Lagos Island.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, posted a video of the operation, which included the arrest of an elderly man found taking shelter beneath a bridge.

According to Wahab, the individuals will soon be charged in court.

He wrote:

“At about 1 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce carried out a routine clean-up and enforcement operation around the Lekki axis of Lagos Island.”

The operation covered several areas, including Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Oniru Beach, Law School, Lekki Phase 1 & 2, and the 1004 Estate area—locations where officials reportedly observed the presence of “undesirable elements.”

A total of 74 people—72 men and 2 women—were arrested during the operation, and the authorities stated that order was restored to the affected areas.
