Netizens highlight ‘proof’ that Prof Mgbeke is working for Akpabio to discredit Senator Natasha
Some netizens have accused Dr Sandra Duru, an ex-ally of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, of being on the payroll of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
It would be recalled that Duru, known as Prof Mgbeke, on Facebook, was among the prominent women supporting Senator Natasha after she accused Akpabio of making a pass at her and victimising her after she rebuffed him.
After doing a lot of advocacy in support of Senator Natasha, she suddenly switched against her and started dragging her all over social media.
While many Nigerians are supporting her, some others have questioned why she suddenly changed from supporting Natasha to attacking her.
In her defence, Duru said she changed after she asked Natasha for her evidence and she confided in her that there was none.
On May 1, 2025, Duru or Prof Mgbeke held a live session where she divulged some of the things she claimed were told to her in confidence by Senator Natasha.
She showed her phone’s call history to her viewers to demonstrate that Natasha actually called her on March 27, contrary to her claims that she did not know her and had never spoken to her before.
In the process, eagle-eyed viewers spotted Akpabio in her call log and subsequently grilled Duru on what the name Akpabio was doing on her phone’s call log.
Many believed this underscored the belief that Akpabio is the one bankrolling Duru’s advocacy against her former ally, Natasha.
One of the Facebook users tabled this query before Prof Mgbeke and pointedly accused her of working for Akpabio.
In her defence, she said the number was not Akpabio’s but his media aide’s.
She published a screenshot of the phone number and said the man called her only after she announced her intention to hold a live session against Natasha.
Prof Mgbeke wrote:
“The man who approached me and introduced himself as a communication strategist and Senior Press Officer did so when I publicly announced my live broadcast. Since then, several media aides linked to nearly every person involved in this highly sensitive matter have tried to reach out to me. I’ve remained calm, discreet, principled, and professional.”
While some accepted the explanation, some remained unsatisfied and have been calling on her to expose those behind her advocacy.
