Nigerian social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has reportedly been arrested by police in Abuja after calling out Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) over unauthorised debits from his mother’s account.
His lawyer, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that officers from the Nigeria Police Force apprehended him at Area 3, Abuja.
According to Adeyanju, the arrest followed his client’s public criticism of GTBank over repeated deductions described as loan repayments, despite his mother allegedly never taking any such loan.
“My client was arrested simply for raising concerns about multiple deductions from his mother’s account for loans she never obtained,” Adeyanju stated.
Before the arrest, VeryDarkMan had taken to social media to express his frustration, sharing screenshots and details of the suspicious transactions.
He explained that he and his mother had visited a GTBank branch in Abuja to demand clarification and request a full statement of account.
In his words:
“My mom and I went to GTBank to understand why they keep deducting money from her account in the name of loan repayments she never took. We’ve already seen over seven deductions this year. The staff were cooperative, and we were hoping to get to the root of it.”
