Justice Serifat Sonaike of the Lagos High Court, sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, has sentenced Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver Andrew Ominikoron to death by hanging for the rape and murder of 22-year-old fashion designer Bamise Ayanwola.
The judgment, delivered on May 2, found that the prosecution by the Lagos State Government had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
In her ruling, Justice Sonaike declared: “For the death of Oluwabamise Ayanwola, you shall be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on your soul.”
Ominikoron was arraigned on four counts, including rape, conspiracy with unidentified accomplices, and the murder of Ayanwola, which occurred on February 26, 2022, along the Lekki-Ajah Conservation expressway.
