A disturbing video of a Ghanaian hairdresser, Ama Serwaa Konadu, being tortured allegedly in Nigeria by kidnappers is trending in Ghana.
Reports circulating on social media in the country indicated that Konadu was abducted on her way to work on April 22.
However, another version circulating on social media suggested that she travelled to Delta State, Nigeria, to meet a lover she had been chatting with for some time. There was no evidence to back this up.
Her relatives reportedly did not hear from her until they were sent several clips of their daughter being tortured by some masked men.
There is nothing from the clips circulating to suggest that the lady is being held in Nigeria, apart from the claim by one of the abductors.
However, analysts claim that the abductor might have simply said that to mislead security officials and frustrate efforts to track them in their hideout in Ghana.
One of the clips circulating shows the lady stripped completely n@ked, with her hands and legs tied and her mouth gagged.
She is being repeatedly struck with the flat side of a machete as she writhes in pain on the floor.
Blood stains can be seen on the tiles in the room where the lady is kept.
In another video, they allowed her to speak directly into the camera to appeal to her family members to pay her ransom.
After her appeal, a member of the gang put a knife to one of the lady’s breasts, threatening to cut it off for sale if the money demanded does not come quickly.
In yet another clip, the suspects laid the 39-year-old hairdresser on a bed with her hands and legs tied and her eyes blindfolded.
A member of the gang put the sharp edge of the machete on her neck, threatening to k!ll her if the family fails to pay the demanded ransom.
The camera caught another victim, who appeared to be male, completely n@ked, with hands and legs tied, and sitting on the ground in the same room where Konadu is being kept.
Meanwhile, the Kibi Divisional Police Command in Ghana acknowledged receiving a formal complaint from Konadu’s family.
The police said the information at their disposal indicated that Ama Serwaa, a popular hairdresser and event decorator in the area, was allegedly kidnapped on Tuesday, April 22, shortly after leaving her home for work.
The police said that the following day, her abductors sent multiple nude videos of her to her family using her own phone. In the footage, she appeared to be assaulted with a machete.
The kidnappers, who claim she is being held in Nigeria, are demanding a ransom of GH¢500,000 (about N52m) for her release.
