An Ogun State Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo Local Government Area has handed a three-month prison sentence to controversial street-hop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

However, the court granted him the option of paying a N30,000 fine in lieu of the sentence.

Portable was arrested in March 2023 after he physically assaulted a police inspector and interfered with law enforcement officers trying to serve him an arrest warrant.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, the incident occurred on November 18, 2022, around 11:00 a.m. at Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.

The charge sheet stated that Portable and others at large conspired to commit a felony, namely assault, which contravenes Section 517 of the Ogun State Criminal Code Law, 2006.

He was also accused of unlawfully assaulting a man identified as Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi, an offence under Section 351.

Additionally, Portable was charged with stealing musical equipment—including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, a Studio 2 interface cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone—on multiple occasions in 2022, violating Sections 383, 384, and 390 of the Ogun State Criminal Code.

In delivering his verdict, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found Portable guilty of the first two counts.

He sentenced him to one month in prison with a N10,000 fine option for Count 1 and two months with a N20,000 fine option for Count 2.
