Actress Kate Henshaw has called out the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for a grammatical error it made in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The exam body was responding to a statement made by politician Peter Obi, who expressed concern that young candidates were being forced to leave their homes in the early hours of the morning—sometimes as early as 6:00 a.m.—to sit for university entrance exams.

In its response via its official X handle, JAMB wrote in part:

“@PeterObi, Your Excellency, I must assert that our examination is scheduled to commence at 8:00 a.m., not 6:00 a.m. While verification and other clearance processes begins at 6:30 a.m., it is imperative that candidates are afforded adequate time to settle in before the exam begins.”

Henshaw pointed out that JAMB used the singular verb “begins” with the plural subject “processes,” highlighting the grammatical mistake.

She wrote: By the way @JAMBHQ It’s not “while verification and other clearance processes BEGINS” It is “while verification and other clearance processes BEGIN!!
I had all my education in this country and it was never this bad..”
