Gunmen believed to be cultists attacked a popular bar in the Akpehe area of Makurdi, Benue State capital, killing four people.

The assailants reportedly stormed the bar around 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025, and began shooting at customers.

The attack, which lasted only a few minutes, left several others injured.

An eyewitness, who narrowly escaped, said he was passing by when he heard gunfire and saw youths, believed to be cultists, invade the bar.

“I saw people fleeing in panic, but no one could say what prompted the attack,” the eyewitness recounted.

Security forces later arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.

One of the deceased victims has been identified as Gabriel Terfa Gugur, who was known for calling himself a “Kiddwaya celebrity look-alike.”

Benue State Police spokesperson, Sewuese Catherine, confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that four individuals lost their lives, while others are receiving medical treatment.

She added that investigations were currently underway.
