A fully loaded truck (registration number GGE 624 YJ) lost control while navigating the Pen Cinema Bridge, crashed through its railings, and fell on two commercial Volkswagen buses parked below.
The incident happened earlier today, April 26, along Agege, Old Abeokuta Road.
Fortunately, the buses were empty at the time of the accident.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the truck driver sustained serious fractures in both hands. LASTMA officials rescued him and handed him over to Elere Police officers, who then took him to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo for urgent medical attention.
LASTMA personnel quickly cordoned off the area, diverted traffic, and worked with the LASEMA Response Unit to remove the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.
Expressing concern, LASTMA General Manager Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki advised motorists, especially truck drivers, to exercise greater caution during the rainy season.
He also stressed the need for strict adherence to road safety regulations and compliance with newly installed speed-limiting devices to prevent such accidents.
Bakare-Oki wished the injured driver a swift recovery.
