Nigerian pastor, Emmanuel Iren, has sparked controversy after stating that, in his experience, nine out of ten sexual assault allegations brought to him by women as a pastor have turned out to be false.

Speaking during a sermon at his church, Pastor Iren shared that he has encountered several such cases and initially reacted strongly to the first few, siding with the accusers.

He recounted one particular case where a woman accused a male church member of assault, prompting Iren to vow that the man would be jailed.

However, Iren said his stance shifted when the accused presented WhatsApp messages showing the woman had told him she “had a nice time,” contradicting her initial claim.

“In this ministry, nine out of ten times women came to say they were sexually assaulted, it turned out to be false—by their own admission,” he said. “If that brother hadn’t kept the message, he would have been in serious trouble.”

The pastor emphasised that his comments were based on personal pastoral experiences and not general assumptions.
