A deadly confrontation between military personnel and mourners at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region in Ghana has left one person dead and three others injured.

The incident occurred on Thursday, April 25, 2025, as a procession of mourners made their way to a cemetery.

According to eyewitness accounts, tensions flared when a group of soldiers stopped the procession after spotting one of the mourners wearing a camouflage outfit.

The soldiers reportedly ordered the individual to remove the clothing.

While he agreed to take off the top, he refused to remove the trousers, saying that it would leave him completely unclothed.

An attempt to force him to remove it degenerated into a violent clash, during which gunshots were fired.

The mourner in the camouflage outfit was allegedly shot in the head, resulting in his death.

Enraged mourners and other community residents resorted to stoning the soldiers who shot sporadically to scare the crowd.

Three people were injured, reportedly due to stray bullets and flying stones.

The wounded individuals were taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for medical treatment.
