A police inspector identified as Maxwell Zabu has allegedly died by suicide in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Zabu was said to have fatally shot himself in his room located within the Eagle Island residence of Hon. Victor Ihunwo, a former Chairman of the Port Harcourt Local Government Area.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Sources revealed that the matter was promptly reported to the police post at Eagle Island under the Azikiwe Police Division.
Officers from the division were said to have visited the scene to commence preliminary investigations.
Inspector Zabu was serving as an orderly and personal aide to Hon. Ihunwo until his death.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and noted that it appears to be a case of suicide, although the exact circumstances remain unclear.
To ensure a thorough probe, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for in-depth investigation.
