
A tragic road accident in the Oke Aro area of Akure, Ondo State, has claimed the lives of a couple and another unidentified individual.
The crash occurred on the morning of Friday, April 18, 2025, along the Itagbanja stretch of Idanre Road.
According to eyewitness accounts, the fatal incident involved a commercial tricycle, popularly known as *Keke Napep*, and a truck.
Reckless driving by both operators has been blamed for the accident.
Among the deceased were a husband and wife, whose identities had not been officially confirmed at the time of this report.
Two of the victims reportedly died on the spot, while the third succumbed to injuries shortly afterwards.
The wreckage of the tricycle was quickly removed from the road. Following the incident, the truck driver fled the scene to avoid a mob attack but later surrendered himself to officers at the B Division Police Station in Oke Aro.
The tragedy ignited anger among local residents, who marched to the police station in protest, throwing stones and demanding justice.
Police officers responded by deploying tear gas to disperse the crowd, which further escalated tensions.
In the wake of the unrest, security agents impounded several commercial tricycles. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
