Multiple-vehicle crash triggers heavy gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Video)
Three feared dead

A serious traffic snarl crippled movement along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for the better part of Friday following a multiple-vehicle collision involving a container-laden trailer around the Kara axis near Berger Bus Stop.
The accident, which occurred on the Ibadan-bound side of the expressway, caused major disruption by blocking several lanes and throwing traffic into chaos.
Quoting eyewitnesses, Vanguard reported that at least three people died in the accident.
As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders—supported by cranes—are at the scene, working to clear the wreckage.
Officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Police are also on site to manage the situation.
The resulting gridlock has extended beyond the 7Up area, impacting both outbound and inbound traffic. The situation worsened as frustrated drivers began taking one-way routes, intensifying the congestion.
“I’ve been stuck in the same spot for more than two hours,” said Olamide Ajayi, a commuter heading to Ibadan. “People are getting out of their vehicles. There’s no movement, and tempers are rising.”
Eyewitnesses painted a grim picture of the scene. “The trailer jackknifed across the road and crushed several cars,” said Ugochukwu Nnaji, who was heading towards Berger when the crash occurred. “It’s a total disaster.”
Motorists are being urged to avoid the Ojodu Berger axis for now and explore alternative routes.
Authorities have advised travelers with urgent appointments to delay their trips until the road is cleared.
“We are doing everything possible to address the situation swiftly and safely,” said an FRSC official at the scene. “We appeal to motorists to stay calm and cooperate with traffic officers.”
This latest incident adds to the string of accidents that have plagued the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in recent months.
