In a jaw-dropping incident captured on video, a man in Kenya was seen clinging to a helicopter mid-air after allegedly pleading for a ride at a wedding before latching onto the aircraft as it took off.
The dramatic footage shows 28-year-old Stephen Odhiambo Ouma dangerously suspended hundreds of feet above ground, holding on for his life as shocked onlookers screamed in disbelief.
The crowd, horrified by the scene unfolding in the skies over Rapogi village on Sunday, April 13, prayed for the father-of-two’s safe return.
Reports indicate that Ouma had approached those onboard the chopper, requesting money and a lift. When his request was declined, he took matters into his own hands, grabbing onto the helicopter as it ascended.
Realising the unexpected stowaway, the pilot made an emergency landing in a nearby field.
Ouma later told local media that he was relieved to be brought down safely, admitting fatigue had started to set in while airborne.
Still, he remained defiant, claiming he could have completed the entire 65-minute journey to Nairobi.
Calling the ride “exhilarating,” Ouma shared that the experience was a personal milestone, given that his usual mode of transport is a donkey.
Remarkably, he added that he barely felt the cold and even managed to keep his slippers on during the flight.
Ouma was arrested later that day at his residence and is currently in police custody. Authorities say he is likely to face charges for endangering both his life and the lives of others aboard the helicopter.
Migori County Police Commander Enrico Lyomu confirmed the arrest, stating, “After the incident, we launched a manhunt.
He attempted to escape and was aggressive during the arrest, but we succeeded in apprehending him. He’ll be charged for risking lives—including his own.”
Lyomu also issued a strong warning to the public, urging against dangerous stunts, especially with helicopters becoming increasingly common at public gatherings in rural areas.
