A night of worship turned tragic on Friday, April 11, when armed assailants attacked a prayer session at a remote mountain site in the Egbola area along Agbaja Road, Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The gunmen opened fire indiscriminately to instil fear before abducting an unspecified number of worshippers into the nearby bush.
A woman, identified as Mary Adams Gure, managed to escape from the bandits amidst the chaos.
She was later rescued by local vigilante operatives who had mobilized swiftly in response to the attack.
A gun battle ensued between the vigilantes and the kidnappers during the rescue operation.
As of now, the exact number of abducted individuals remains unknown. Efforts to reach the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, for comments have been unsuccessful.
