A Nigerian police officer has come under heavy criticism after he allegedly beat up a woman in front of her husband during a road altercation.
The incident, which went viral on X (formerly Twitter), showed the officer engaging in a tussle with the woman who is holding on to his uniform while another woman can be seen trying to separate the two.
A male voice believed to be the husband of the assaulted woman threatened to post the video online. This was scoffed at by the police officer who shouted, “Post it!”
No assault was actually seen in the video but the woman’s mouth was bloody, suggesting that the actual assault might have occurred before the filming.
The video has ignited a flurry of reactions on social media, with users expressing anger and scepticism over the officer’s conduct.
While some viewers condemned the alleged abuse, others observed they did not see any assault happening in the posted video.
Some reactions from X users include:
@olusholaspecia: “Why wait for tragedy before action is taken?”
@_EWNS: “They lack proper training. Always asking nonsense like ‘who are you?’”
@DataRefines: “That’s the Nigerian police for you. He even shouted, ‘post it!’”
@Eugene0588: “All I saw was the woman and her daughter dragging the officer’s shirt.”
@lemekeosborn1: “If it were my wife, that officer wouldn’t remember what hit him.”
@Fomehbaba: “Touching someone doesn’t mean there was an assault.”
