A female commercial driver is calling for justice after reportedly being assaulted by a street thug (Agbero) in Lagos State during an attempted theft of her car battery.
In a viral video shared online on Tuesday, the visibly injured woman, in tears and with a swollen face, recounted the attack.
She said the suspect had posed as a passenger near the Oriental Hotel, claiming he was en route to the Nigerian Law School.
Her suspicions were raised when she noticed him in the rear-view mirror allegedly trying to steal her battery. Upon confronting him, he allegedly turned violent, beating her, tearing her clothes, and dragging her in public.
“He began hitting me when I questioned him about the battery,” she cried in the footage.
Pleading for support, she said, “Look at what he did to me. He ripped my clothes and beat me up. Please, someone, call human rights.”
She expressed frustration at being neglected by the transport unions she pays levies to and accused authorities of ignoring the abuse of female drivers.
She also alleged the attacker belonged to a gang targeting commercial vehicles for batteries and valuables.
