Evangelist Ebuka Obi, founder of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, has dismissed claims linking him to the continued detention of controversial blogger, Chizorom Ofoegbu, popularly known as “Ijele Speaks.”
Obi had previously filed a lawsuit against Ofoegbu at the Federal High Court in Lagos, accusing him of making threats to his life.
According to Obi, the court granted Ofoegbu bail on June 14, 2024, but he failed to meet the conditions.
His legal team later sought a variation of the bail terms, which the prosecution did not oppose.
At a recent press briefing in Lagos, Zion’s spokesperson, Dan Aibangbe, alongside the church’s legal representatives, described the media allegations as false and damaging.
Presenting certified court documents, Aibangbe stated that Ofoegbu had met the bail conditions and should have been released.
The trial was adjourned to October 21 and 22, 2024.
However, at the resumed hearing, Ofoegbu’s lawyer revealed his client remained in custody, not due to Obi’s case, but over separate defamation and cyberstalking charges filed by another religious leader, Victor Onukaogu (Daddy Hezekiah), currently pending in Awka.
Zion’s legal team maintained Obi merely reported a perceived threat and had no involvement in Ofoegbu’s continued incarceration.
