Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has apologized to residents over the severe traffic congestion experienced on Wednesday and Thursday, April 3, following the closure of the Independence Bridge.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday morning, the governor explained that the bridge repairs were necessary to prevent a potential disaster.

To ease traffic flow, he assured that alternative routes would be thoroughly cleared, and more traffic officers and security personnel would be deployed, similar to measures taken during the December festive period.

Sanwo-Olu also urged Lagosians to comply with traffic regulations.

He also advised offices that can operate remotely to allow employees to work from home during the maintenance period.

The state government had earlier announced the closure of the Marina-bound section of Independence Bridge starting April 1 for essential maintenance, with completion expected by the end of May.
