Retired policeman takes own life after k!lling two family members and one other in Lagos

A retired police officer, Charles Atideka, has reportedly taken his own life after allegedly killing three people, including two family members, in Yovoyan community, Badagry, Lagos State.

The incident, linked to a long-standing land dispute, occurred around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

The victims, identified as Richard Atideka and Latevi Atideka from Yovoyan community, and Muji Onilude from the neighbouring Gberefu community, were allegedly shot dead by the ex-police officer and an accomplice.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the suspect consumed a poisonous substance after committing the act. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead.

“The suspect killed three people and allegedly took poison afterward. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. His body, along with those of the victims, has been deposited in the morgue,” Hundeyin said.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
