A pregnant woman in labour has tragically lost her life after a hospital allegedly turned her away because she could not pay a ₦500,000 deposit.

The heartbreaking incident went viral after a video was shared on X (formerly Twitter), showing the expectant mother inside a car with her husband, still alive but in distress as they rushed to find medical help.

In the emotional footage, her desperate husband can be heard pleading with her to hold on for the sake of their children.

“Kemi, look at me! Stay strong, please. Think about your kids—you have to be strong for me,” he begged as she struggled to respond.

According to the post, the couple initially visited a hospital, but the facility refused to admit her due to their inability to pay the required deposit.

The husband of the woman then took her in search of another hospital. Their journey in search of another hospital was filmed by someone who was in the car with the couple as they tried to find another hospital.

Sady, Kemi did not make it.

The tragic news sparked widespread outrage online, with many condemning the hospital’s refusal to provide immediate care.

One user, @ihe69, shared a personal experience: “This is painful. I lost my wife in 2020, and despite having money, it was just her time to go. If it wasn’t God’s will, she would have survived somehow. May her soul rest in peace.”

Another, @LightUp_9ja, criticized the hospital, stating, “It’s senseless that a patient in critical need is denied first aid because of money. This hospital must be investigated, and justice must prevail.”

As the conversation continues, many are calling for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s healthcare system to prevent similar tragedies.
